Housing Minister Zameer Ahmad Khan said that under the PMAY scheme, the construction of 1,80,253 houses being implemented across the state by the Karnataka Slum Development Board will be completed by December 2026.
Replying to a question from MLA Siddu Patil in the State Legislative Assembly on Monday, the minister said that due to non-payment of beneficiaries’ share, the scheme had faced problems. After bringing this to the notice of the Chief Minister, a major decision was taken that the government itself will bear the beneficiaries’ share for the houses of the poor. Following the release of ₹500 crore, in the first phase 36,789 houses were allotted, and preparations have been made for allotment of 40,345 houses in the second phase. The Chief Minister has directed that the works must be completed within 2026, and accordingly, steps will be taken, he added.
Replying to a supplementary question from Aravind Bellad, the minister said that even the scheme of constructing 47,870 houses for poor families under the Rajiv Gandhi Housing Corporation had faced the same issue of non-payment of beneficiaries’ share. This matter too has been brought to the notice of the Chief Minister, who has given in-principle approval for the government to bear the share. It will be placed before the Cabinet for formal approval, and those houses will also be completed and distributed at the earliest.
