Centre’s step motherly treatment to Karnataka: DCM DK Shivakumar

Cut in grants to state due to jealousy
Rectify your property through e-swathu

Bengaluru, Dec 1: Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar today expressed dissatisfaction over Centre adopting a step motherly treatment towards the state in various schemes including MGNREGA and Jal Jeevan Mission.

Speaking at an event organized at Vidhana Soudha to award Gandhi Grama awards and inaugurate e-swathu 2.0, he said, “The Centre is trying to cut down the grants to projects like MGNREGA as it was launched by the Congress party. In 2021, the grant under MGNREGA was 14.65 man days. It has been reduced to 9 crore man days this year, a reduction of 40%. In 2021, the state received a grant of Rs 5,910 crore and this year it has come down to Rs 2,691 crore.”

“Under Jal Jeevan Mission, Centre and State are to provide grants of 45% each and the remaining 10% comes from the people. State government released Rs 3,700 crore last year while the Centre has not released any funds yet,” he explained.

“Gandhi Grama Puraskara is a historic programme being organized at the moment when the state government has completed half the tenure. The party is working for you,” he added.

Rectify your document with e-swathu
“We are giving the e-swathu documents to the doorsteps of people. For all the property documents under Panchayats, we are issuing 11B khata thorough Bapuji centres. Of the 1.48 lakh homes, 53 lakh have obtained e-swathu while 95 lakh homes are yet to get it. I call upon people to pay the fee and obtain e-swathu,” he added.

“Giving land documents to people is our government’s 6th guarantee. We have already issued 6 lakh e-khatas in Bengaluru. We have issued property documents to 1.11 lakh tribals in Vijayanagara district,” he explained.

BJP and Centre shocked by MGNREGA work in my constituency
“I got MGNREGA works worth Rs 250 crores in my constituency. The Centre and the BJP launched an investigation into this alleging corruption. We have done a lot of work under this scheme including cattle sheds, poultry farming, Ashraya homes, rain water harvesting, panchayat offices, parks, etc. Eventually, our taluk received an award for best use of MGNREGA funds,” he said.

“I obtained my Master’s degree in Political Science in 2007-08. In the answer sheets, I had answered about local bodies with my practical knowledge. My professor told me that I have more marks in that,” he recalled.
