DCM D.K. Shivakumar to Rally Karnataka MPs in Delhi Over Stalled Irrigation Projects

Date:

Bengaluru, March 17:
Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar announced on Tuesday that he, along with senior ministers H.K. Patil and M.B. Patil, will meet all Members of Parliament (MPs) from Karnataka in New Delhi to discuss the state’s pending irrigation projects.
Speaking to the media at the Kempegowda International Airport before departing for the national capital, the DCM highlighted that several crucial water projects are currently awaiting clearance from the Central Government.

Key Highlights:
Collective Pressure: The DCM stated that the primary goal of the meeting is to urge the Center to grant immediate approvals. “We will demand that the Central Government take a collective decision on irrigation matters concerning Karnataka,” he said.
United Front: The delegation aims to bring all Karnataka MPs—regardless of their political parties—onto a single platform to fight for the state’s water rights.
Major Projects on Agenda: While the DCM didn’t name every project at the airport, the discussions are expected to center around the Mekedatu, Mahadayi, and Upper Krishna Project (UKP) Phase-3 clearances.
Follow-up: Shivakumar mentioned that further details regarding the outcome of the meetings and the specific demands placed before the Union Ministers would be shared after the discussions conclude.
The meeting is seen as a strategic move by the state government to fast-track long-delayed infrastructure that is vital for Karnataka’s farmers and drinking water needs
