Draft bill ready to protect the interests of herders: Cabinet approves and presents in session: Minister K. Venkatesh

The government is committed to protecting the interests of herders in the state. The draft of the Prevention of Atrocities on Herders Act is already ready and will be approved in the next Cabinet meeting (August 19, 2025) and presented in the session, said Veterinary Minister K. Venkatesh.

Issuing a press release in this regard, he said that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has expressed his commitment to the implementation of this act. The draft of the Karnataka Traditional Migratory Herders (Welfare Measures and Prevention of Atrocities) Bill 2025 has been prepared for the protection of the properties of the herders, compensation schemes, appointment of doctors, and police protection. This has been approved by the Law Department and the draft bill will be approved in the next Cabinet meeting. The minister said in his announcement that it will be tabled in this session after approval.
