Despite the huge inflow of water into the Almatti reservoir during the monsoon season, there was no flood on the riverbank due to the efficient management of KBJNL engineers. Since May 19, 462.366 TMC of water has flowed into the reservoir, and 367.320 TMC of water has been released into the river. The maximum inflow of 1.57 lakh cusecs was recorded on July 31.
Damage due to the efficient work of KBJNL engineers
If more than 5 lakh cusecs of water is released, it will be a problem for the people of Masuthi
So far, 462.366 TMC of water has flowed into the reservoir. Out of which 367.320 TMC of water has been released into the river basin
Vijayapura: Despite the huge amount of water flowing into the Almatti reservoir during the current monsoon season, no flood situation has arisen on the riverbank so far due to the efficient management by KBJNL engineers.
Due to the heavy rains in the Western Ghats region of Maharashtra, the Krishna and its tributaries are overflowing, causing huge water to flow into the Almatti reservoir. Every year, when the water flowing into the reservoir is released into the river basin, it enters the riverbank lands and damages the crops. Sometimes, settlements have been flooded. Last year too, some lands along the riverbank were damaged. But this time, there has been no flood situation due to the good water management by KBJNL engineers.
Inflow into the Almatti reservoir started on May 19 this year.
Since then, 462.366 TMC of water has flowed into the reservoir. Out of which 367.320 TMC of water has been released into the river basin. This time, the maximum inflow of 1.57 lakh cusecs of water flowing into the reservoir on July 31 is this year. On Tuesday (August 19), the river released 1.75 lakh cusecs of water, which is the maximum outflow so far.
The Almatti reservoir, which has a maximum water storage of 123.081 TMC at a height of 519.60 meters, had 113.757 TMC of water stored at a height of 519.05 meters as of 8 am on Tuesday. The inflow was 88,126 cusecs while the outflow was 1.35 lakh cusecs. The outflow was increased to 1.75 lakh cusecs at 10 am due to the possibility of increased inflow.
Water has been released from the Almatti Dam to the riverbed in stages, following the rainfall in the Western Ghats of Maharashtra and the water flowing into the Krishna river from Rajapur Barrage. So far, there has been no flood, said D. Basavaraj, Chief Engineer, KBJNL Almatti
When 2.70 lakh cusecs of water is released from the Almatti Dam, the riverbank lands of Araladinni, Yalaguru, Yalammana Boodihal, Masuti villages of the taluk are likely to be inundated. When more than 5 lakh cusecs of water is released, there is a possibility of it reaching the residential area of Masuti village, said A.D. Amaravadagi, Tahsildar, Nidagundi
