Vijayapura Airport: 2 fire engines arrive from Austria

Date:

Vijayapura: Two state-of-the-art fire engines required for the greenfield airport here, which is set to be inaugurated, arrived from faraway Austria on Monday, Infrastructure Development Minister M B Patil said.

Giving information about this, he said that these fire engines are computerized and have been supplied from Austria under a global tender. Their cost is estimated at Rs 24 crore. They have the capacity to fire up to 160 meters in emergencies. This has fulfilled another requirement stated by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation and the Airports Authority of India.

These fire engines can extinguish fires on the ground and move forward at high speed. These facilities were not included in the original design of Vijayapura Airport. Later, many more advantages were added to it. These vehicles, which arrived in Mumbai by ship from Austria, were transported to Vijayapura by truck, he explained.

With the arrival of the fire engines, another step has been taken towards the inauguration of the airport. Patil said that only the environmental clearance is pending and efforts are being made to obtain it.
