Two GESCOM Junior Engineers Caught by Lokayukta While Allegedly Accepting Bribe in Shorapur

Date:

Shorapur, October 14: In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Karnataka Lokayukta Police on Tuesday trapped two Junior Engineers (JEs) of the Gulbarga Electricity Supply Company (GESCOM) while they were allegedly accepting a bribe at the Executive Engineer, O&M Division Office on the outskirts of Shorapur town in Yadgir district.

The accused officials have been identified as Sachin Yadake and Shrishail Tamadaddi, both serving as Junior Engineers with GESCOM, Shorapur.

The operation was conducted by the Yadgir Lokayukta unit under the guidance of the Lokayukta Superintendent of Police (SP) and Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP). The officials were caught red-handed while allegedly accepting ₹3,000, which was part of a ₹9,000 bribe they had allegedly demanded from a contractor.

According to the Lokayukta, the trap was laid following a complaint filed by Bairanna Ambiger, a Class-II contractor from Thinthani village. The complainant alleged that the accused officials demanded a bribe to process and approve payment for a completed electrical work valued at ₹3,63,942, which had remained pending for nearly eight months despite the work having been completed.

Based on the complaint, the Lokayukta registered a case under Section 7(a) of the Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988, as amended in 2018, and carried out the trap operation.

Both accused were taken into custody after they were allegedly caught accepting the bribe amount.

The operation was led by Lokayukta DySP J.H. Inamdar, with Police Inspector Pradeep Talakeri and other personnel from the Yadgir Lokayukta unit participating in the successfully trap.

Further investigation is underway.
