Bengaluru, November 3: KPCC President B.K. Hariprasad announced that the INDIA Alliance parties will hold a massive protest at Freedom Park, Bengaluru, on November 5, against the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) process and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
Addressing a press conference at the KPCC Headquarters in Bengaluru after a meeting with INDIA Alliance leaders, Hariprasad said the protest is a continuation of the INDIA Alliance’s demonstration held at Ramlila Maidan in Delhi on November 1.
He said the alliance leaders have decided to conduct protests across the country at taluk and block levels. In Karnataka, the agitation will begin with a state-level protest in Bengaluru, followed by demonstrations in districts and taluks.
Hariprasad alleged that the BJP and RSS were attempting to weaken the democratic system through the misuse of constitutional institutions. He said the protest would continue until Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar resigns.
CPI(M) State Secretary K. Prakash said the SIR process should be withdrawn and demanded reforms in the appointment process of the Chief Election Commissioner. He also demanded withdrawal of the law providing permanent immunity to the Chief Election Commissioner.
Leaders said the INDIA Alliance would expand the movement across Karnataka to protect democratic values and ensure wider public participation.
The press conference was attended by CPI(M) leaders Sathi Sundarash, Forward Bloc’s Shivashankar, Ali, CPI(ML) leader Clifton D’Rozario, and KPCC Media and Communication Department Chairman Ramesh Babu.
