In a deeply disturbing incident, a young pedestrian woman was allegedly gang-raped inside a car by three unidentified men in Lonavala late Friday night. The victim, who was abducted and assaulted at multiple locations, later managed to file a police complaint at the Lonavala City Police Station.

According to the police, the woman was walking near Tungarli village in Lonavala on Friday evening when a car with three men pulled up beside her. The men reportedly threatened her, forcibly pushed her into the vehicle, snatched her mobile phone, and tied her hands and legs. Over the next few hours, the trio allegedly took turns raping her inside the moving car across various locations.

The ordeal ended when the accused dropped her in a distressed state near Nangargaon. Locals who found her terrified and disoriented took her to a nearby temple for safety and immediately alerted the police. A team from Lonavala Police reached the spot and recorded the woman’s statement after facilitating a medical examination.

Police have registered an FIR against the three unidentified accused under relevant IPC sections, including gang rape and wrongful confinement. Special squads have been formed to trace the suspects. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from surrounding areas and questioning known local offenders.

Repeat Offence Raises Alarms in the Region

This incident comes just a week after a married woman was similarly attacked by a motorcycle-borne assailant near a village in the Pavana dam area. In that case, Lonavala Rural Police swiftly arrested the accused. However, back-to-back sexual assaults have triggered serious safety concerns among residents and prompted calls for heightened police patrolling, especially in isolated stretches.

Police officials have assured that every effort is being made to identify and apprehend the culprits swiftly. The investigation is ongoing.
