Winter School on Bharatiya Anusandhana Paddhati Inaugurated at Karnataka Samskrit University

Date:

A seven-day Winter School titled Bharatiya Anusandhana Paddhati is being organized at Karnataka Samskrit University, Bengaluru, from 4th to 10th December 2025. This academic programme is jointly organized by Karnataka Samskrit University, Bengaluru; Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi; and Veda Vijnana Shodha Samsthanam, Bengaluru, with the financial support of the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi.

The Winter School brings together 70 scholars from various regions of India, who will, over the next seven days, engage in in-depth discussions and critically examine, analyse, and evaluate the research methodologies inherent in disciplines such as Grammar, Vedanta, Nyaya, Mimamsa, Education, and Literature. The participants will also document their scholarly deliberations and findings.

At present, research methodologies adopted in Indian shastric subjects are largely influenced by Western systems, which often do not fully address the research requirements of these disciplines. In contrast, India has, since ancient times, nurtured distinctive and self-reliant traditions of research and methods of textual composition. These traditions have evolved over centuries, developing their own customs, materials, techniques, procedures, and styles. Against this backdrop, the primary objective of this Winter School is to foster a scientific approach to research that is uniquely Indian.

Reflecting the idea that “a tree looks beautiful when new shoots grow from old roots,” the Winter School aims to discuss, debate, and document the strong foundations offered by the shastric texts and integrate them with new and evolving research methodologies. The goal is to evolve a comprehensive framework for Bharatiya Anusandhana Paddhati .

The inaugural function of the Winter School was held on 4th December 2025 at 10:00 a.m. The Chief Guest for the occasion was Prof. Srinivasa Varakhedi, Vice Chancellor of the Central Sanskrit University, New Delhi. The event was presided over by Dr. Ahalya S, Vice Chancellor of Karnataka Sanskrit University. Distinguished guests included Prof. Ramachandra Kotemane and Prof. Brajbhushan Ojha. The Registrar, Prof. V. Girishchandra, was also present.

Prof. Shivani V., the organizer of the programme, extended a warm welcome to all the participants and dignitaries. The inaugural session concluded with a formal vote of thanks delivered by Dr. Bhaskar Bhat Joshi.
