Bengaluru Court Warns of Legal Action Against Recording and Sharing In-Camera Proceedings

Date:

Bengaluru, Oct. 28: The Bengaluru CCH-59 Special Court has issued a stern warning against recording court proceedings, including screen recordings during virtual hearings, and sharing such content on social media or any other platform. The court said strict legal action would be taken against anyone found violating its directions.

The warning came during the hearing of the high-profile Renukaswamy murder case on Tuesday, in which Pradosh, who has been granted pardon, has turned an approver and is now a prosecution witness.

Actors Darshan and Pavithra Gowda appeared before the court through video conferencing, while the remaining accused, including Nagaraj, Lakshman, Anukumar, and Jagadish, were physically present before the Special Court.

During the proceedings, senior advocate Hashmath Pasha, appearing for Darshan, objected to the participation of Pradosh’s counsel. He argued that Pradosh, having ceased to be an accused after receiving pardon and becoming a prosecution witness, was not entitled to engage a defence lawyer.

The counsel representing the accused also raised serious objections over the alleged recording of the court proceedings and the circulation of screen recordings on social media platforms.

Taking serious note of the allegations, the CCH-59 Special Court reiterated that the trial is being conducted in camera, meaning the proceedings are confidential and closed to the public. The court made it clear that any unauthorized recording, distribution, or publication of the proceedings would amount to a serious violation of court directions.

The court further warned that stringent legal action would be initiated against any individual found recording, sharing, or circulating videos or screenshots of the confidential proceedings. It stressed that maintaining the privacy, confidentiality, and integrity of the judicial process is of paramount importance.
