Elderly Man Killed in Tipper Accident; Public Demands Control of Speeding Heavy Vehicles

Athani: An elderly man lost his life on the spot after being hit by a tipper truck while crossing the road near Ambedkar Circle in Athani town.

The incident has raised concerns among local residents as road accidents have reportedly increased in Athani Taluk in recent days. According to residents, tipper trucks and other heavy vehicles are often driven at high speeds not only on highways but also on town roads, putting pedestrians, senior citizens, and two-wheeler riders at risk.

The public has urged the authorities to take immediate measures to regulate the movement and speed of heavy vehicles, especially in crowded areas such as Ambedkar Circle. Residents have also called for strict action against drivers who violate traffic rules and requested the Athani Police Department and concerned officials to implement effective safety measures to prevent further accidents.

The incident has once again highlighted the need for stronger traffic management and road safety enforcement in the region.
