Date:

BENGALURU, Oct. 30: Karnataka Forest Minister Ramalinga Reddy, addressing a press conference at Vidhana Soudha, announced the State Government’s comprehensive guidelines for an eco-friendly Deepavali 2026. The directives, which will be in force from November 8 to November 10, 2026, permit only certified green firecrackers and strictly limit their use to 8:00 PM to 10:00 PM, in accordance with the directions of the Hon’ble Supreme Court of India.

The Minister said the government is committed to ensuring that Deepavali is celebrated in an environmentally responsible manner while safeguarding public health. He noted that excessive use of conventional firecrackers has led to increased air and noise pollution, adversely affecting children, senior citizens, patients, birds, and animals.

Key Directives Issued by the Government

  • Only certified green firecrackers carrying an official logo and QR code are permitted for sale and use. Unauthorized crackers will be seized.
  • Bursting of green crackers is allowed only between 8:00 PM and 10:00 PM. Firecrackers are prohibited outside this time window.
  • Firecrackers are completely banned in silent zones, including areas surrounding hospitals, educational institutions, and healthcare facilities.
  • Joint enforcement teams headed by Deputy Commissioners and Superintendents of Police will inspect warehouses and take legal action against those stocking banned firecrackers.
  • Commercial Taxes and Transport Department officials have been directed to strengthen surveillance at interstate borders to prevent the entry of illegal firecrackers.
  • Urban local bodies will conduct awareness campaigns promoting eco-friendly celebrations and ensure proper disposal of post-festival solid waste.

Minister’s Appeal

Appealing to the public, Ramalinga Reddy said, “Deepavali is a festival of lights. Let us celebrate it by lighting lamps, minimizing the use of firecrackers, reducing air and noise pollution, and keeping our surroundings clean for future generations.”

The State Government has urged citizens, traders, and enforcement agencies to strictly comply with the guidelines to ensure a safe, peaceful, and environmentally sustainable Deepavali across Karnataka.
