‘Share & Care’ Initiative by M. S. Ramaiah College Brings Joy to Senior Citizens
Bengaluru, September 27: In a heartwarming initiative that highlighted the values of empathy, compassion and social responsibility, the Department of Commerce, M. S. Ramaiah College of Arts, Science & Commerce, Bengaluru, organised a community outreach programme titled “SHARE & CARE – A Day of Care, Companionship & Connection” at Gandhi Sevashrama, Bengaluru.
The programme was designed to sensitise students to the importance of community service and meaningful social engagement while fostering respect and care for the elderly.
As part of the initiative, 46 final-year B.Com students visited Gandhi Sevashrama, where they spent quality time with senior citizens through interactive sessions, games, music, cultural activities and informal conversations. Their enthusiastic participation transformed the visit into a memorable experience for both the students and the residents.
Rather than limiting their contribution to material assistance, the students chose to offer something far more valuable—their time, attention and companionship. They listened to the life stories of the elderly, shared moments of laughter and created an atmosphere filled with warmth, dignity and mutual respect.
The outreach programme provided students with an enriching learning experience, demonstrating that even simple acts of kindness can have a lasting impact on society. It also strengthened their understanding of empathy, gratitude, respect for senior citizens and the importance of active community participation.
The initiative was coordinated by Ms. Nivitha Gowda M., Assistant Professor, Department of Commerce, who guided and encouraged the students throughout the programme.
The Department of Commerce stated that such outreach initiatives will continue to be organised as part of its commitment to nurturing socially conscious, compassionate and responsible future professionals.
