Youth Lured into Illegal Sex Trade Hotspots, Raising Social and Public Health Concerns

Date:

Bengaluru, September 27: Illegal prostitution networks operating in parts of Bengaluru are emerging as a growing social concern, with activists and local residents expressing alarm over the increasing presence of young people in such areas.

According to people familiar with the situation, price negotiations with customers take place openly in some locations before clients are escorted to private rooms by women involved in the illegal trade. While law enforcement agencies periodically conduct raids, residents say the activity continues to surface in different pockets of the city.

What has raised greater concern is the reported presence of college students and job seekers among those visiting these locations. Many of them arrive in Bengaluru from smaller towns and villages with aspirations of pursuing higher education or securing employment
