Bengaluru, May 30: AICC General Secretary K C Venugopal today announced that D K Shivakumar has been elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP).
Addressing the media after the Congress Legislature Party meeting at Vidhana Soudha, Venugopal said, “I am proud to announce that D K Shivakumar has been elected as the new leader of the Congress Legislative Party. The Congress High Command proposed his name for the position. In the CLP meeting, caretaker Chief Minister Siddaramaiah personally proposed Shivakumar’s name, which was unanimously accepted by the Congress Legislature Party. Dr G Parameshwara seconded the proposal.”
Swearing-in ceremony on June 3
“Shivakumar will meet the Governor and stake claim to form the government as Chief Minister. The swearing in ceremony will be held on June 3. Many had expected this transfer of power to create difficulties for the Congress party, but we are like a family. Everyone was asking how Siddaramaiah would react, but Siddaramaiah said there was only the Congress party in his heart and he would abide by High Command’s decision. Siddaramaiah has proved this through his actions. This is testimony to the fact that Congress is one family,” he said.
Congress party to return to power in 2028
“At today’s Congress Legislature Party meeting, Siddaramaiah’s 8 years of outstanding service as Chief Minister was commended. The resolution was moved by D K Shivakumar himself. This is a proud moment for the Congress party. This transfer of power has been carried out under the guidance of AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge, Rahul Gandhi, and Sonia Gandhi. Under D K Shivakumar’s leadership, and with Siddaramaiah’s support, the Congress party will return to power again in 2028,” he said.
